Montsant

This outstanding wine comes from a single, very steep vineyard planted with over 100 year old Grenache vines. The vineyard is located at La Figuera, on the northern edge of the Montsant D.O., and looks onto the famous Montsant mountain as well as having spectacular views of the Ebro valley and even the distant Pyrenees 200 kms away. Hence the name !
The vines have been carefully tended by René Barbier’s Clos Mogador team and the wine vinified by René in one special oak vat. The wine is stunning, with glorious ripe Grenache fruit and wonderful soft spicy flavours…and of course the enormous depth and richness provided by the age of the vines. The project is jointly owned by Réné and Isabelle Barbier, Fernando and Marta Zamora (Oenologists and teachers at University of Tarragona), and Charlotte and Christopher Cannan.

Viticulture & Winemaking

Practicing organic and biodynamic but not certified.
Selective picking of the grapes with a first round of sorting in the vines. Following de-stemming and a gentle crush, the grapes transferred to 4,000L new oak vat. The maceration lasts for 4 to 5 weeks. After this, the wine is aged in the same vat for 14 to 16 months. After bottling the wine is aged for another year before release.
