Presentation
Joseph Jamet began in 1950 with just 35 ares of vineyard. At the time, Côte Rôtie was largely overlooked, so much of his land was planted with apricots, peaches, and nectarines. He only started bottling his own wine in 1976 but was quickly recognized by buyers seeking the best domaine-bottled Côte Rôtie, already famed as a top red wine appellation. Today, the estate is entirely devoted to wine grapes, including 8,7 hectares of the “roasted slope” across 19 plots. The varied terroirs allow for consistently complex and distinctive wines. Since Joseph’s retirement in 1986, the domaine has been run by his son Jean-Paul and wife Corinne, recently joined by their son Loïc. A modern cellar and selective use of oak barrels complement the vineyards’ true strength. Rootstocks and grafts are matched to each plot, and strict yield control—pruning, debudding, foliage management, and crop thinning—ensures every vine reaches full ripeness. Skins, acids, and even stalks are physiologically ripe, contributing to wines that are never “green,” even in weaker years. Jamet’s Côte Rôtie is a hedonistic, peppery explosion of black fruit—irresistible, intense, and among the most sought-after wines of the appellation.

Average age of the vines
The majority of vines are average 30 years old, but there are some aged 50 years old in Les Moutonnes and over 60 in Côte Brune.
Location
Located in Le Vallin, above Ampuis, with vineyards across the best slopes and lieux-dits of the appellation. They include many of the best lieu-dits, such as Fonjean (Fontgent), Côte Brune, Les Moutonnes and La Landonne.
Soils
Domaine Jamet’s vineyards grow on sheer granite bedrock with a thin topsoil of slate, iron-rich clay, and sandy limestone, providing structure, concentration, and elegance.
Viticulture & Winemaking
Respectful of the vines and the soil, the vineyard workers at Domaine Jamet work throughout the year with minimal intervention. Monitoring the development of the vines is essential, and Loïc is on hand to take action.
What’s more, Jean-Paul often says that mountain viticulture commands respect. Indeed, cultivating vines on the steep slopes of the northern Rhône Valley teaches you to remain humble in the face of this magnificent and challenging natural environment, which gives Côte Rôtie its unique character.
Jean‑Paul Jamet emphasizes that mountain viticulture demands humility: the steep slopes of the northern Rhône shape both the work and the character of the wine, giving Côte Rôtie its distinct identity. In the cellar, grapes are hand-picked, lightly crushed, and never destemmed. Fermentation is carried out at controlled temperatures of 30–32°C with regular pumping over to ensure balanced extraction. After fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic conversion in 600-litre “demi-muids” and 228-litre “pièces.” Ageing takes place in Allier oak casks, with 15–20% renewed annually. After 18 months, the wines are bottled unfiltered, preserving the purity, texture, and distinctive minerality that reflect the steep, granite-rich terroirs of Jamet’s Côte Rôtie vineyards.
