Presentation

The Courlat estate is first mentioned in records dating back to 1748, and came into the Bourotte family back in 1936. Present owner Pierre Bourotte identified the potential afforded by some of the best-located vineyards in the appellation, and has installed a serious quality-orientated regime here. Vineyards are carefully managed, and every effort is made to bring in optimally ripe fruit. Winemaking is under the guidance of Michel Rolland and his team, using concrete vats (for better heat exchange) and sufficient but not excessive oak. The resulting wine is classic ‘right bank’ : smooth and full, with suave, rounded tannins, ripe fruit and a gentle minerality. Soft enough to drink young, it will nevertheless age gracefully for a number of years. Unlike too many ‘satellite St Emilions’, this does actually offer St Emilion style and St Emilion quality at non-St Emilion prices.
