CHATEAU LAMARTINE

This is one of the leading estates in Cahors producing wines that are of exceptional value. The vineyards cover 28 hectares and are planted 90 % with the Cot (aka Malbec) grape. The remainder is Merlot and Tannat. The average age of the vines is over 25 years. This, combined with the fact that the estate is situated at the extreme west of the Cahors appellation, where the Lot valley opens up and the climate is warmer, gives wines with plenty of ripe fruit and great character. The normal Cahors Château Lamartine is classic Cahors at its best. The Cuvée Particulière has had longer ageing in oak. This is a great wine by any standards in the South West. The balance of the rich fruit with a touch of oak give enormous elegance and class. The "Cuvée l'Expression" is something else ... from 100 % Malbec, old vines, and a low yield of 30 hectos per hectare, this wine is made with a long maceration followed by malolactic fermentation in new oak. Ageing is also in new oak until bottling 18 months after the vintage. The result is a world class wine of enormous concentration and depth. The flavours of intense ripe fruit and a touch of new oak are gorgeous. The concentration and power rank this wine with the best in France. It must be tasted to be believed !
