Hofstatter is one of the best-known and best-respected wineries in the Alto Adige, making decidedly superior wines across a whole range of white and red varieties, plus some very exciting "terroir" bottlings. The Hofstatter philosophy is all about vineyards...this was the first estate in the region to produce a single vineyard cuvée named after the site rather than the varietal, and they are now leading the movement towards more ecologically-friendly, bio-viticulture.
The estate is based in Tramin, the village which gave its name to the Gewurztraminer grape. Not surprisingly, Gewurz is a house speciality, in particular, the famous Kolbenhof bottling. More recently, Hofstatter has developed a cult following for their Pinot Noirs, which are for many commentators the very best in Italy. Run by Martin Foradori Hofstatter, this remains a family-owned and family-run wine estate, with the accent firmly on quality.
